10:00  BARN QUILTS Old barns as well as new buildings in the country and in town, or your living room offer the perfect display area for barn quilts. Mary Jo Schmit from Crooked Lane Farm will be here to share the history of Barn Quilts and the development of a Red River Valley Barn Quilt Trail.  She teaches classes on making barn quilt squares.  Please come to hear about another way to make and display a quilt.

11:00  HOW QUILTS WORKBasic Design Principles for Quilters   What makes quilts work? What makes them interesting? Not all quilters have degrees in art or design, but nearly all quilters have read children’s books. What makes those book illustrations work? The very same design principles that quilt artists use in their work. Using familiar images from children’s literature as examples, NACQJ certified quilt judge and retired elementary media specialist Kate Eelkema will explain how understanding basic design principles will help you improve the composition of your quilts. There will even be a short hands-on learning activity, so bring some paper scissors and a glue stick along to this presentation if you can.

NOON ALL-MACHINE BINDING  Clem Buzick  If you hate hand stitching your bindings, or just want to get your binding done quicker, this ;lecture/demo is for you. Learn how to do a binding completely by machine . . . no hand stitching necessary!

1:00 LOG CABIN RULERS The trim tools have made the traditional block easy to do. Join Mary (Mary’s Quilt Market) as she shares easy ways to make the log cabin block.

2:00 CUDDLE Have you ever worked with Cuddle?  Afraid to work with Cuddle? Join Jackie Jones of Designer Fabrics as she takes us through informational tips and techniques about using Cuddle. Handouts will be available.

3:00 ZENTANGLES mini class with Bobbi Barnhardt  Bring out the artist in you with Zentangles.  Bobbie will walk us through the easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.  Bobbie will share some items she has drawn on as she has used literally everything but her undies! Limited number of $5 kits for will be available.

4:00 ENGLISH PAPER PIECING demo  If you are looking to slow down and relax…then this leisurely quilting technique is just what you have been looking for. No irons, sewing machines, or even rotary cutters needed. Just fabric, needle, thread, and a scissors will have you on your way. Once you have learned the simple technique of English Paper Piecing and you can get started on your next heirloom quilt. With April from Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe.

10:00  RULERS Demo, Lisa Hage  Have you gone green? A ruler designed for you to be able to see the lines on any color of fabric!  You will love these rulers. Do you love the look of half-square triangle quilts; but hate trying to get the points to match up? I’ve got your answer. Sneak peeks will also be given at this demo. You do not want to miss out! There are many new things in the works, and you can be in the know.

11:00  MONO PRINTING on fabric demonstration by Stephanie Lacher  Monoprinting is a one of a kind print that creates interesting and abstract designs. Learn about monoprinting using a gelli plate and household items or stencils to make a design on fabric. The fabric will become permanent and washable when heat set. Several tools and techniques will be shown so you can see the possibilities of creating your own fabric design.

NOON A PATTERN IS JUST A SUGGESTION, Colleen Carlson lecture   Do you buy patterns yet want to make changes to the design? Colleen will show pattern changes from small edits to large leaps.

1:00 MINI CLASS $7 charge  Dorset Buttons, 183 Trading Company, Kay Watson  (Class limit 10) Dorset Buttons were at their peak between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons from factories.  Return to the classics and make one.

2:00 LECTURE – How to prepare your quilt for the long arm quilter, lecture by Creative Dimensions, Chelce Detert

3:00 Demo – Untangling the Wool Applique Thread  Bonnie Lundorff  Ever wonder which thread to use while appliqueing? Bonnie from Willow Wood Market will present a mini trunk show of various project she has made using a variety of threads. There are so many threads on the market for wool applique; join Bonnie as she talks about which ones are best for different projects and untangle the mystery.
