2018 METRO QUILT EXPO Entry Guidelines

Submit one form for each item entered.

Fees per item are $7 – QGND Members & Youth            $14 – Non-Members   Quilt entry fee does not include admission to the Quilt Show.

Mail completed entry forms with check in U.S. funds payable to QGND. You may choose to pay on-line via PayPal.

TIMELINE

Entry forms mailed by Monday, April 9, 2018 OR submitted on-line by April 15

Shipped quilts received April 30 through May 5, 2018 or quilts delivered to Ramada Fargo, 3333 13th Ave, S, Fargo ND, on May 8, 2018.

Quilt Delivery

Quilts entered in the show may be either shipped or hand-delivered by you or a representative. Shipped entries must be received April 30 through May 5, 2018.

Shipping insurance is quilter’s responsibility.

Hand-delivered items must be brought to the Ramada Fargo, 3333 13th Ave S, Fargo ND, between noon and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

Canadian residents, contact U.S. Customs at 701-825-6201 or 701-825-6551 several weeks prior to shipping to obtain a temporary importation permit.

Quilt Return

Quilts must be picked up on Saturday, May 12, 2018, between 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Ramada Fargo. You or a representative must present your entry receipt to claim your quilt. If your quilt is to be shipped, include a prepaid shipping label with your quilt.

Display

The Metro Quilt Expo Committee reserves the right to limit quilts based on space available. Every effort will be made to display at least one quilt per quilter.

No sleeves are required on quilt entries.

Sales

Items may be offered for sale at a 20% consignment fee. List the selling price, including the 20% consignment fee, on the Entry Form.

Judging

You determine the division/category in which your items will be entered. Please read the Quilt Division descriptions carefully. The quilt show committee reserves the right to move quilts to more appropriate categories. The judge is Kate Eelkema, Minnetonka, MN NACQJ. Entrants may request that items not be judged.

In the event of a tie, each first place quilt will receive half of the monetary award. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category.

Awards and judge’s comments can be claimed at the registration desk or will be included in return packaging for shipped entries.

RULES FOR ENTRIES

  1. Each entry must have a separate completed entry form. A non-refundable fee is required for each entry.
  2. Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2013 and not have been displayed in a previous QGND quilt show.
  3. Incomplete, damaged or soiled quilts will not qualify for display or judging. All quilts must be free of pet hair and any type of odor, including smoke. Quilts will be inspected upon receipt.
  4. All quilt entries must have three layers. Tied quilts will not be accepted. Exceptions: See Traditional Quilt Division specialty techniques mentioned.
  5. All persons involved in making the entry must be listed on the entry form.
  6. If entry is not an original design, credit must be given to the source.
  7. You may enter as many quilts as you like in all Divisions, however due to space restraints we may not be able to hang them all.
  8. Framed items will not be accepted. Entries with embellishments must be capable of stacking or folding without risking harm to it or other entries.
  9. For identification purposes all quilts should have a label on the back, lower right-hand corner of the quilt. The label should include the quilt name, the entrant’s name, city and state.
  10. Entrants may request that items not be judged. The entry fee is still required and the quilt may still be hung in the show. All entries are eligible for Viewers’ Choice award.
  11. At the judge’s discretion the Quilters’ Guild of North Dakota reserves the right to combine categories or not award prizes or ribbons in a category.
  12. Entries are accepted in order of postmarked or e-mail date.
  13. The Committee reserves the right to reject any unqualified or misrepresented entry. All decisions of the Committee and judges are final.

    Divisions

    1.Traditional Quilt Division
    Quilt uses a traditional block or design, or is based on a traditional pattern. Includes samplers, applique, pictorial, and pieced quilts as well as specialty techniques such as crazy quilt, whole cloth, yo-yos, embroidered, and cathedral window.
         Categories: Small, Medium or Large
    2. Designer Pattern Division
    Quilt uses a design or an adaptation of a design from a book or commercial pattern designed by someone other than the quilter and includes kits.
        Categories: Small, Medium or Large
    3. Modern Quilt Division
    Quilt is inspired by modern design that typically features minimalism, asymmetry, expansive negative space, alternate grid work, improvisational piecing, high contrast and many solid-colored fabrics. Quilt may be an original design or commercial pattern.
        Categories: Small, Medium or Large
     4. Art Quilt Division
    Quilt is an original design illustrating a concept, theme, message, or idea. Quilts derived from a commercial pattern or designed by someone other than the quilter are not
    eligible in this division. This category includes abstract, pictorial, portrait, landscape, and specialty techniques.

     5. Young Quilter Division
    Quilt is made by a quilter aged 17 or younger. To be eligible in this division, the quilt must be pieced and quilted by the young quilter. Quilts which are quilted by an adult collaborator may not be entered in this division. Young quilters are not limited to entering in this division, but may choose to enter their quilts in any division.

     6. 2018 Guild Challenge
    For members of the Quilters’ Guild of North Dakota. Entry fee was included in Challenge Fee, so do not enclose payment for this division. See ndquilts.com for details.
